Hey guys, this is Aaron Suttenfield here with RDS Lawn Care. I want to talk to you a little bit today real quickly about proper blade sharpening. why it’s important and how often you need to do it. It’s probably one of the simplest things you can do to improve the health of your turf. So if you have not sharpened your blades, or you don’t remember the last time you sharpened your blades, there’s a good chance you need to sharpen your blades, take them off the mower, take them to a local hardware store that does mower repair, let them do it for you. It’s real simple, maybe buy two sets of blades and switch them out a couple times a year. But what happens when you have a dull blade is you’re ripping the grass. And a couple of things happen when you do that. One is the grass actually will have a yellow hue to it because the green tip, the green grass will have a yellow tip where you’ve ripped it. So it’s like split ends on hair. So you could have a yellow hue to your turf right now. And that could be because you have dull blades. Also when you rip the grass and you have that opening, you’re inviting disease into your lawn. So right now in the summer months where we’re high pressure for disease with the humidity, late afternoon thunderstorms, all that’s going to present more disease pressure and ripped grass blades are more susceptible to disease pressure. So get your blade sharpened, take them off your mower take them to a place that does mower repair, have them sharpen them for you, buy two sets of blades so you can switch them out a couple of times a year. I think it’s a good idea at least two to three times a year to sharpen your mower blades thanks.
