Folks, these folks have a great program. They provide a service that is fantastic. If you do your part, trust me, they do theirs. We could not be happier with the results and hope they post our pictures soon. Your yard is an investment into your property. If we put our home on the market right now, we could get asking price easily, due to the grass.

Signs of an Infestation

Many homes in Mt. Holly have either tall fescue grass or Bermudagrass, which are cool-season and warm-season grasses, respectively. These lawns that consist of only one type of grass are more vulnerable to grub infestation and should be checked regularly. There are some key signs to look for when determining if you have an infestation. Yellow spots and spongy turf are two of the most common symptoms of a grub infestation. Grubs feed on the roots of the grass, which causes your lawn to have less substance underneath the soil, creating a spongy effect. The damage lawn grubs cause to the roots also makes it harder for your lawn to get the necessary nutrients, causing yellow patches to form.

Common Grubs in Mt. Holly

Grub control in Mt. Holly often targets 3 specific types of grubs that are commonly found in the area. Below is a list containing details of each type of grub:

  • Japanese Beetles – The larva of Japanese beetles is the most commonly identified lawn grub in Mt. Holly. They have white crescent-shaped bodies with tiny tan-to-orange heads. They love the weather in Mt. Holly from mid to late summer, and these grubs feed on the roots of your lawn, creating the spongy effect. Spongy lawns in North Carolina usually mean Japanese beetles.

  • Chinch Bugs – In the larval stage, this grub has a white c-shaped body with an orange head. It is most differentiated from other grubs by its 6 legs. Chinch bugs prefer the hotter temperatures of the summer months, and these grubs feed on the liquid inside the grass and the plant roots. This causes grass to turn yellow.

  • Armyworms – These grubs have sleek bodies that have dark bands across the top. The damage they cause is often confused with drought stress. In both the larval stage and adult stage of its life, the armyworm feeds on blades of grass. If you notice blades of grass that have been chewed through, you may have an armyworm infestation.
